Spicy Cajun Shrimp Fettucine

For me, there’s nothing like a bowl of steamy hot pasta drenched in either a spicy cream- based sauce or an ooey-gooey cheesy-licious sauce. Mmmm. Comfort food at its best! More so, in rainy weather, curled up with a good book or a fun movie.

Pasta dishes are some of the easiest meals to serve up; family style and big on flavour! This next recipe is precisely that; easily prepared in one go in under 15 minutes and packed with loads of flavour!


500 grams shrimp, cleaned

500 grams fettucine

1 tablespoon butter/ oil

2 tablespoons, minced garlic

1 tablespoon red chilli flakes

2 tablespoons cajun seasoning

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 cup chicken stock

1/3 cup heavy cream

1 tin, button mushroom, sliced

Oregano/ salt/ pepper for seasoning

Handful of chopped coriander/ flat-leaf parsley

Cook the fettucine al dente, according to the instructions on the packaging. Generally, pasta should cook between 11- 13 minutes. Drain, mix a knob of butter through the drained pasta and set aside.

In a bowl, marinate the shrimp with the cajun seasoning, red chilli flakes and season with salt and pepper.

In a large pan, heat the oil and saute the garlic and marinated prawns. Remove from the pan and set aside. Into the same pan, add the tomato paste and stock. Let the sauce bubble through and begin to get thicker.

Then add the shrimp, mushrooms and heavy cream. Cook through and season with more salt, if required. Sprinkle over some oregano/ herb seasonings and toss in the pasta and remove off the fire.


Mix the pasta well with the sauce and serve, topped with the chopped corainder leaves.
