Minty Melon Berry Juice

Although Sri Lanka is a tropical country, bang right on the Equator, you’d think we’d be used to the heat by now. But currently, thanks to climate changes (yes it’s real) and El Nino, we’re going through one of the hottest periods in our history. Temperatures, generally between 28- 30 degrees Celcius, are now soaring well into the upper 30’s and early 40’s. Humidity is 70-80% and coupled with the heat, you’re literally an ice cube, melting every second of the day.

So hydration has become key to surviving this insane weather and what better way to beat the heat than a great refreshing and hydrating juice.

I always turn to watermelon for a juice. It’s sweet, high in water content and full of vitamins. Couple that with anti-oxidant high strawberries and this is a nutritious and hydrating juice you can have at any time.

It’s simple, just add all ingredients into a blender and you’re good to go. I like to keep it chunky, so you feel the crunch of the fruit.

Minty Melon Berry Juice

  • 1 large watermelon
  • 250 grams strawberries, hulled and washed
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves
  • 1 liter of chilled water

Add all ingredients into a blender and whiz until well combined.

I prefer to not add any sugars into the juice, but if you prefer, you may add a dash of honey or brown sugar. You could also add ice cubes, instead of the water.

Serve with a sprig of mint and a slice of watermelon/ strawberry.

The recipe makes enough for 4-5 servings.

Bon Appetit!
